betkaBetka Bizjak Kotnik (SI) professor of saxophone and soloist graduated at Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 1999 and later in 1998 and 2000 she finished studies with Medaille d’or and Premier prix de perfectionnement at Conservatoir National de Region in Lyon, France. In 2005 she concluded saxophone post-graduate study in Ljubljana. She was awarded by Prešeren Student award of Academy of Music in Ljubljana. Her international career as young saxophone player started in 1995, when she won 2nd prize and silver medal in European competition for young saxophonists in Luxembourg, later in 1998 on she represented Slovenia in the Final EBU Eurovision competition for young musicians.

Since 2000 she has been professor of saxophone at Music Conservatory Ljubljana, Slovenia. During these years she has been organising several domestic and later on international projects involving young musicians (pupils, students and teachers):

Institute of education of Republic Slovenia: Educational master classes and workshop for teachers between 2006 and 2010

Saxistra workshop (masterclasses and international competition) from 2003-2010.

Emona international festival for woodwind: since 2102. In 2012 she became a part of organizing committee. In 2015 she proposed to involved also pianists and singers and enlarged the festival with collaboration of partnerships abroad. With the last three editions (2014, 2015, 2016) they succeed to host participants from all over the Europe.

As professor and teacher she is member of juries at international and Slovene competitions. Also her students were participated and awarded with prizes at competition in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.

Her music career spans chamber music with pianist, saxophone quartet and ensemble of saxophone, ensemble of contemporary music as well as soloist with orchestras. She has collaborated with Atelje of the Society of Slovene composers, With Association of musicians Munich, and gave first performances of their saxophone pieces. As a soloist she performed with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, the Slovene Military Orchestra and the Academy of Music Ljubljana orchestra. She gave recitals in various subscription concerts in Slovenia and abroad: Munich, Vienna, Szczeczinek, Croatia, Serbia, Bosna and Hercegovina, Italy and at World Saxophone Congresses in Minnesota USA, Ljubljana, SLO, Strassbourg, F.

She has been recording several pieces for Radio Slovenia and co-operated with compact CD Saxophonia 2005 and released her own CD Repliques in 2008.

She is a member of LadieSaxophone Quartet which is unique group of female saxophonists, whose concept is to perform music, written by young contemporary composers from their native countries. Their story began in September 2013, followed by various musical projects in which they participated with a desire to present a repertoire for classical saxophone on the highest level and make it approachable for a wider audience.
